You Don't Mess With The Zohan

Some people take movies to seriously. And I think that was the problem with "You don't mess with the Zohan", The movie was bashed by critics and it was also criticized for it being a bad stereotype of the whole Israeli/Palestine war. That's just as bad as the whole Blind people criticizing the movie "Blindness".

Firstly the movie is an Adam Sandler movie you can't be expected to take anything he makes seriously. OK maybe Punch Drunk love and Reign Over me gave him some accolades as being taken a bit more seriously and showed he could handle drama with taste. And for the dramas he did, he did an amazing job. But then your left thinking of his other movies for instance, Happy Gilmore,Billy Madison,The Waterboy,Mr. Deeds, all of which are funny no brainer comedy's you go in have a few chuckles and leave with a smile even if it is repetitious or toilet humour it's still fun.

So the plot of Zohan is as follows. Zohan Davir (Adam Sandler) is an Israeli counter-terrorist, in fact he is the best in all of his country he is admired by the ladies and all the men want to be him. But he is tired of fighting and wants to do something different, he wants to move to America and get a new profession, he wants to make the world "Silky Smooth" by becoming a hairdresser. After a battle with Super terrorist Phantom(way over the top acting by John Tutturo) Zohan fakes his death to go live his dream as a Hairdresser but of course his past soon catches up with him as some Palestinians discover who he really is.

There are so many Antics in this movie firstly going with the whole penis joke. Throughout the movie there are many jokes pointed towards Zohans penis as he has a huge bulge all the time, but later on shown that it's not his Penis which is big but his bush which is big. As well as him having sex with the old ladies, you can't help but chuckle and laugh at the whole thing as it's just so preposterous and way over the top. It's those moments in which the audience gets a pretty big laugh, at least most of the laughs I found were in those situations.

I had some other laughs as well with Zohan and his martial arts, using his feet uppercut or doing a no-hand push-up. It's hard to not laugh at it, even those who who have hard times laughing at ridiculous comedy should at least get a grin.

But of course not everything is all that great, there are some jokes that do fall flat. For instance The Mariah Carey skit, throughout the whole movie we see Zohan wearing Mariah Carey t-shirts but when she appears and Zohan and Phantom start a fight, and there is a joke in which Phantom points a bee out after being scared by Zohan, she reacts scared and afraid that there's a real bee in the room. Unfortunately the joke drags on and goes nowhere. Some jokes fit in with the movie and some don't. The villain of the movie is played by ring announcer Micheal Buffer who is a rich tycoon and wants to tear down the district in which Zohan works to make a mega mall. It was really sad to see him used as a villain as he was about as useless in this movie as George Clooneys cameo appearance in The Thin red Line. There is also points where the movie actually tries to convey message not a huge one, were not talking Al Gore message here, but it`s still there and kind of annoying about stopping the whole war and getting along, it doesn`t make it better when Zohan falls for a Palestinian woman named Dalia(Emanuelle Chirqui) whom he works with. In some ways it works and in others it seems forced towards the whole story.

Alright I know I Pointed out some flaws of the film but who cares what film nowadays does not have a flaw in it. The main thing to really do with You Don`t mess with the Zohan is leave your Brain at home and try and have a good time with how over the top and how funny it is as well. It`s not an academy award winner but just a fun movie to just watch to get a few laughs and enjoy yourself, not to be taken seriously or even as a racial stereotype.

So in a final thought i`d give this one a rent, it has it`s funny moments and it`s basically a typical Adam Sandler film with over the top antics and crazy situations, that were just about used to with half the movies we`ve seen anyways. Don`t expect to much but just a good time.

Another awesome review. Loved the inclusion of pictures. That makes it look nicer, more aesthetically pleasing.

I agree with most of your points (the Mariah Carey bee 'joke' being the most prominent), but for your final assessment I must disagree.

I think this movie is definately a buy for comedy lovers out there. Sure its not the most tasteful piece in the world, but its highly amusing to everyone and I'd call it a must see movie. One of Sandler's best.
