Iron Man Review

Superhero movies we love or we hate them. And i get why some people hate them. Many grew up on the comic books or graphic novels that we all used to read or even in this readers case one time stole(big accident I swear). But in any case which ever way you did read them whether at a store or at home or with friends, we all got drawn into the storys that were told and when someone comes along and changes everything, many of us feel like it's disgracing our youth and the storys we grew up on.

In any case 2008 this summer was a great year for superhero movies or movies based on graphic novels. We got The Dark Knight, Incredible Hulk, Wanted and Iron Man. After watching Iron Man last night I can kind of see where people liked and disliked it. Firstly a lot was changed including Tony Starks origin. In 1963 Iron Man was created and was captured and held captive in The Vietnam War of coruse this got updated as later in the 90's he was captured and held captive in the Gulf War and now updated again and hopefully once and for all in Afghanistan.

And this is where the movie takes off Tony Stark(Robert Downey JR) is held captive in a cave with another scientist and is supposed to build a weapon of mass destruction for these terrorists. But instead of building the weapon he decides to go ahead and build a suit in which he can fight with. After blowing up a lot of stuff and is saved by his friend Col. Rhodes(Terrence Howard) Tony then decides that his company should no longer be building weapons that destroy people but instead helping people. Of course that big bald man known as Jeff Bridges who play Obidiah Stane does not like this and wants to keep Stark Industries to himself to keep making weapons. While this all is going on Tony is building a new suit one that has more stability can fly and has more weapons.

So what was good and what was bad? Well as i said earlier there were things that I understood from both ends as to why people liked and disliked the film. Firstly the film paces quite nicely and even throws in some good humour as well. Robert Downey JR is great as Tony Stark and everyone plays there part well even Gwyneth Paltrow as the adorable Pepper Potts but also serving as a useless character in many points. But even Jeff Bridges serves as a good enemy and in earlier points of the film everyone getting along and making jokes, you could defnitely see that the cast had a good time with this movie and all got along.

The action in this film is also really amazing and great, lots of great FX. The Iron Man fx itself are amazing that you'll actually believe yourself Iron Man could exsist. And we have to thank ILm for creating those amazing effects as they did an amazing job with Transformers.

So what could be bad about the film? Well when thinking of this I tend to look closely at how much Iron Man is shown and we only get 4-5 big scenes with Iron Man actually in it. And the rest is mainly him either building and testing his suit out. Now not that I can really complain about it, it serves as an origin towards the character and gets you pumped up for whats to come, but others may not like it and some of it could've been cut into smaller parts.

As far as superhero movies go it was enjoyable and made for both kids and adults alike to enjoy and was as far as origins Jon Favreau has stated he doesn't want his movies (Iron Man Movies) to be unrealistic and keep them with a more realistic tone hence a lot of the changes that were made to Starks origin. But I actually agreed and didn't find myself hating it and found it quite enjoyable good pacing and great acting with some great action it makes for a good popcorn flick and is either a rent or buy whichever you decide I gurantee you won't be making a mistake.

Very good review. I wanna see Iron Man even more now. Lend me your copy? :)

Anyway I love superhero movies, and I think that dispite the fact they tend to change some aspects around from their original comic form, it can be a good thing, revamping them for the times. If its done right, of course.

Anyway can you do Transformers sometime, since you mentionned it in this review? Both of em!
